Glorious Bath Abbey,hogan
Deep in the historic city of Bath is its wonderful abbey; the abbey is the last of three churches that have stood on the site during the past twelve and a half centuries. Its official name is the Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul but is known more commonly as Bath Abbey. The former Benedictine monastery in the county of Somerset has been rebuilt twice,billige MBT Schuhe, in the 12th and 16th century and is one the grandest examples of Gothic architecture in the south west of England.
The history of the abbey began back in 675 when the king of Hwicce granted permission for a convent to be built in Bath which later became a monastery. The monastery played a large part in English history with Edgar the Peaceful being crowned the king of English before his ascension to the throne in the year in 959. It was King Edgar that introduced and encouraged the monks of the Abbey to follow the rules and teachings of St Benedict.
The Abbeys church seats around 1200 people and is in a plan of cruciform. There are numerous monuments and memorials within the Abbey many of which are dedicated to English statesmen and even one is dedicated to an American Senator William Bingham who died in the city in 1804.
As with many of the world's largest Abbeys and churches the organ is a very important and historical piece of equipment and is regarded as far more than just a musical instrument. The first mention of the Abbey's Organ was in 1634 but not much information is known about its type or maker. The Abbeys original ring of six bells was replaced in 1700 with a new ring of eight and to this day all but one still survives.
Deep in the cellars visitors can find the Bath Abbey Heritage Vaults Museum; the museum is located within the restored eighteenth century vaults. Throughout the museum visitors can see many different artefacts and items regarding the rich history that surrounds the abbey and its many inhabitants over the years. During the year you can find many different exhibitions in place,Christian Louboutin, currently there are many Diptychs on display that belong to the abbey.
